FAQ — Switching from WeldTrace

Is Field PM's weld mapping really as good as WeldTrace?+

For ~95% of piping, structural, and pipeline contractors, yes. Same code coverage (ASME, AWS, API), same NDE tracking, same WPS / PQR library, same welder qualification continuity logic. WeldTrace has more depth in some niche edge cases — but for a typical contractor running B31.3 or D1.1 jobs, Field PM ships every workflow they need.

How can you bundle it for free when WeldTrace charges $1,000s/yr?+

WeldTrace is a standalone product that has to fund itself entirely from weld-mapping revenue. Field PM's weld mapping is one module inside a broader construction PM suite — it doesn't need to be priced separately. We use it as a differentiator: pay $99/mo for Field PM, get weld mapping included.

Can I migrate from WeldTrace?+

Yes via CSV exports. WeldTrace lets you export weld logs, WPS library, PQR records, welder qualifications, and NDE results. Field PM imports all of these. The biggest manual step is re-uploading drawings if you want them in the new system.

Does Field PM track welder continuity and lapse warnings?+

Yes — every welder has a qualifications record with code, position, process, F-number, and continuity dates. The system flags welders whose continuity is about to lapse before they're assigned to a production weld.

What if I only need weld mapping and not the rest of the PM features?+

Honest answer: WeldTrace is probably the cleaner buy if you don't need any of the PM / QAQC / safety / daily-report features. Field PM's value math works when you're consolidating multiple tools. If you're already running Procore or Buildertrend for PM and just need weld mapping bolted on, the WeldTrace standalone purchase is straightforward.

Can I export weld data books for project hand-off?+

Yes — the Data Book report bundles drawings, weld log, NDE results, WPS / PQR references, and welder qualifications into a single PDF turnover package, exportable per test pack or per project.
