Is Housecall Pro better than Field PM Service for a pure service business?+

For pure service-only shops focused on residential customers, Housecall Pro's online booking, consumer brand, and marketing automation are stronger out of the box. Field PM matches HCP on the operational workflow (dispatch, mobile tech, pricebook, SMS) but doesn't yet have HCP's consumer-facing booking polish.

I do HVAC installs AND ongoing maintenance — which is better?+

Field PM. Housecall Pro is service-only — no construction PM, no daily reports for crew installs, no productivity tracking. If you're bidding $50K+ install jobs and want to track them like projects (budget vs actual, daily field reports, change orders), Field PM is the only one of the two that does that.

Can I migrate customers + equipment history from Housecall Pro?+

Yes via CSV. HCP exports customers, equipment, work orders, invoices, and pricebook items. Field PM imports all of those. Plan an afternoon for the migration + a week to verify pricebook bundle structure.

How does the pricing compare for a 5-tech shop?+

Housecall Pro at ~5 techs runs $200-400/month depending on tier. Field PM Service add-on is $49/month flat regardless of tech count (we don't charge per technician). For shops scaling past 5-10 techs, Field PM saves substantially.

Does Field PM Service have customer reminders and confirmations?+

Yes — automated SMS templates for appointment confirmation, on-my-way, arrived, complete, and payment due ship out of the box. Email reminders are also supported.

What about online payments?+

Online payment via Stripe Connect is on the deferred roadmap — we're waiting for customer demand before building it (deliberate choice to use Stripe Connect for direct contractor payouts rather than a money-transmitter approach). Today the customer portal shows invoice status and accepts manual payment.
