Does this differ from a regular daily report?
Yes — the subcontractor version adds GC-specific fields (GC contact, GC superintendent, GC interactions / directives / RFIs) and removes GC-level fields you wouldn't fill in as a sub. The bones are the same; the lens is different.
Do I need to send a daily report if I worked 1 hour?
Yes, on most jobs. The GC needs documentation that you were on site and what you did — even a 1-hour visit gets logged. The template adapts to short days by leaving fields blank.
How do I submit this to the GC?
Print and hand-deliver, save as PDF and email, or submit via the GC's portal if they use a PM platform. Field PM's Sub Report feature lets subs submit daily reports directly to the GC inside the platform.

A subcontractor daily report is the daily log a sub submits to the general contractor. It's the GC's primary source for project-wide situational awareness, claim documentation, schedule tracking, and payroll backup. Most subcontracts require it; even when they don't, the GC will ask for it.
This template gives you the structure: crew + hours, work performed, materials, safety, the GC-interactions block, and any delays. Fill it out at end-of-shift on a tablet, save as PDF, email it to the GC superintendent before the next morning.
