Frequently asked questions

Which codes does this weld log support?

The columns and structure align with ASME IX, ASME B31.1 / B31.3, AWS D1.1, and API 1104 — the four most common piping and structural welding codes in North America. Adapt column headers as needed for your code.

Can I track NDE results in this log?

Yes — there's a column for NDE Type / % (RT 10%, UT, MT, PT, VT, PMI) and a separate column for the NDE Result (pass / fail / repair). For progressive sampling on B31.3 jobs, you'll want full tracking — Field PM does this automatically.

Do you have a welder qualifications log too?

Welder qualifications belong in their own log — separate from the weld log itself. Field PM's Weld Mapping module ships with both, plus continuity-status tracking that flags lapsed welders before they touch a production weld.

A weld log every owner / 3rd-party inspector recognizes

A weld log — also called a weld map, weld traceability log, or weld traveler — is the contemporaneous record of every weld on a job. For code-driven jobs (ASME B31.3 process piping, ASME IX pressure vessels, AWS D1.1 structural, API 1104 cross-country pipelines), the weld log is the document that gets handed to the owner at turnover. Without it, the package isn't accepted.

This template covers the columns every owner, 3rd-party inspector, and AHJ expects: weld number, drawing, joint type, size, schedule, WPS, welder + stamp, VI/NDE results, heat numbers per side, and filler batch. Use it on small jobs or as a teaching template for new QA staff.

For full ASME B31.3 progressive-sampling logic, welder-qualification gating, continuity tracking, NDE auto-selection, and one-click turnover data book generation, see Field PM's Weld Mapping module — it's included free in every account.
