Frequently asked questions

What is a Schedule of Values?

A Schedule of Values (SOV) breaks the contract sum into line items, each with a dollar value. It's the basis for progress billing — you bill the percentage complete of each line. The AIA G703 is the standard continuation sheet that accompanies a G702 application for payment.

Does this template calculate automatically?

Yes. Total Completed & Stored (G = previous + this period + stored materials), % complete (G ÷ scheduled value), and balance to finish (scheduled value − G) are live formulas, and the bottom row totals every money column.

Is this an official AIA form?

No — this is an AIA G703-style template with the same structure and columns, free to use. The official AIA G702/G703 forms are licensed by the AIA; many owners accept an equivalent format, but confirm what your contract requires.

How do I handle retainage?

Enter the retainage amount per line (or apply a flat percentage). The template tracks it as its own column so your net-due reconciles. For a quick retainage calculation, use our free retainage calculator.

The billing backbone of every progress payment

The Schedule of Values (SOV) is how a contract sum becomes billable. You divide the total contract into line items, assign each a scheduled value, and then bill the percentage complete of each line every period. It's the document the architect and owner review to release payment, and the AIA G703 continuation sheet is its standard form.

This template carries the standard G703 columns with the math built in: enter previous work, this period's work, and stored materials, and the template computes total completed-and-stored, percent complete, and the balance to finish, then totals every money column at the bottom.

When you outgrow the spreadsheet, Field PM's AIA progress billing generates the G702/G703 from your project budget — percent complete, retainage, and approved change orders handled automatically, exported as a branded PDF.
